December 2015 Communication

The Holiday season is upon us once again. It amazes me each year how fast it approaches. In the hustle and bustle of the holidays, it is increasingly important now a days to pause and remember what they truly are about: Giving thanks, family, loved ones, and friendship.

Too often we focused on the new shiny gift, latest technology, or filling out various wish lists. Instead, we should stop and pause to give thanks to our wonderful creator who has be-stowed all of these wonderful gifts of life that include our families and our brothers. Brethren, this Holiday season I urge you all to take on those Tenets of Brotherly Love and Relief. This can include visiting or calling up an old Brother you have not heard from in some time to see how he is doing, or donating your time to various charities to relieve the distress and those less fortunate.

By practicing Brotherly Love and Relief, this Holiday season, we as Masons can truly leave our mark and continue to assist those in need and remember those that are often forgotten. And, that my brothers is the meaning of the Holiday season.

Our first meeting in November saw us initiate our newest Brother, Brother Harner. All the officers continue to do a wonderful job with the degree work. At our second meeting, we were introduced to our new Grand Inspector for the remainder of the year and next year. I also provided a reading list of Masonic books to assist the officers in their learning. The reading list is below and can be found at various places online. Non-officers can also view the readings to better educate themselves in Freemasonry.

Additional Freemasonry Reading Material

  • The Historical Landmarks and other evidences of Freemasonry Explained by George Oliver
  • The Symbolism of Freemasonry: Illustrating and Explaining Its Science and Philosophy, its Legends, Myths and Symbols by Albert Mackey
  • The Spirit of Freemasonry by WM Hutchinson
  • The Constitutions of the Free-Masons (1734) by James Anderson A.M., Right Worshipful Fraternity of Accepted Free-Masons and Benjamin Franklin Grand Master of Masons of Pennsylvania

December 7th, brings our annual Holiday Party and the Election of Officers for 2016. The festivities begin at 7:00 p.m., with our meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. Like in previous years, the Marines from Toys for Tots will be present accepting donations either by check or a non-stuffed, unwrapped toy. There will also be Holiday cheer, music, and good fellowship. All brothers and their friends and family are invited. We have had a good turnout in years past and I have no doubt the event will be a good time.

Looking ahead into 2016, the Installation of Officers will occur on Monday, January 4th, 2016. Laurel Wreath Lodge will host the Bingo at Bonnie Blink at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22nd.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Philip Maxon
Worshipful Master
