January 2016 From the East

I want to thank you all again for electing me as your Worshipful Master for a second year. I look forward to growing and building on the momentum we have accomplished in the last year. We have a lot of work left to do and I cannot wait to get started.
Congratulates as well to our new Senior and Junior Warden elects: Brothers Gary Beall and Cecil Lee. Both will do a fantastic job in the West and South, respectively. I look  forward to pushing Brother Gary to the East.

Brother Cecil Lee was also recently elected President and Treasurer of the Lodge’s Pillar Club, taking over duties from Brother Robert Murphy, P.M. I am sure he will do a great job in organizing all of the Pillar Club activities, including our annual Crab Feast.

I want to take a minute a acknowledge the  unfortunate closure of the Laurel Chapter of the Eastern Star. The Star Chapter decided to fold in November 2015 after over 70 years serving our community. It is a sad day, but the work the Star did in the community will not be  forgotten. From all members, past and present, of Laurel Wreath Lodge, I would like to say thank you to the Eastern Star.

Our first meeting in December, saw the election of officers as well as the annual Lodge Holiday Party  It was a wonderful turnout and a lot of fun for the Brothers and their families. We also raised around $700 for the Toys for Tots as well as nearly a carload full of Toys. I want to thank Brothers Vic Carlson and Dave Whetzel for their hard work in preparing and organizing for the event.

At our second meeting, we tied up loose ends for the year as well as Brothers Roy Bates and David Schwartz stood their Master Mason  Catechism. Both did an excellent job thanks to the great teaching of Brother Ritchie Seigel.

January brings a new year and a new line. Our first meeting on January 4th will see a Closed Installation of Officers. Dinner will begin at 6:15 p.m. and will be breakfast for dinner themed. Lodge will commence at 7:30 p.m.

Our second meeting on January 18th will be a  regular communication with a focus on how to grow the lodge locally over the next year. If any Brothers have any good, concrete ideas, please bring them up at that meeting.

Laurel Wreath Lodge will host the Bingo at Bonnie Blink at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22nd.  If you can assist, please let the me know.

Thank you again Brothers for electing me as your Worshipful Master for a 2nd year. I will do my best to continue the excellent tradition of  Worshipful Masters of this lodge. All together I know we can do great things this year.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Philip Maxon

Worshipful Master
