The month of May felt more like April with all the rain, but June and summer is now right around the corner. The Lodge was busy over the month with our annual CHIP event at the Laurel Main Street Festival and the Grand Lodge Semi-Annual Communication.
The CHIP event was a success as we were able to process around 87 children during the day. We had a few hiccups at the start, but once we got going, the event went really well. I want to thank the brothers that assisted in the day. It was a little cool, but thankfully, the rain held off.
Our first meeting in May saw our Senior Warden, Brother Beall, assume the east to run a regular communication. He did a fine job and is progressing his way to the East next year. Our second meeting was a quick one as I was a little under the weather. We went over a summary of the Grand Lodge’s Semi-Annual Communication and some items for the month of June.
As the calendar turns to June we approach my favorite meeting of the year, our annual Strawberry and Scholarship night. This year’s will occur on June 6th. Dinner will be at 7:00 p.m., with the event starting at 7:30 p.m. We have 10 wonderful scholarship recipients and I hope to see any many brothers as possible at the event. It is an open event, so family and friends are invited and encouraged to attend.
Our second meeting, on June 20th, will be to tie up any loose ends before we call off for the summer as well as to lay out the plan and schedule for the rest of the calendar year. The second half of the year is shaping up to be a busy one, so I will need the officers to be fully invested and involved in the rest of the year.
The Lodge is moving in a number of directions on the web. Our Facebook page is growing and we will soon start to add more pictures and content to the page. If you have not done so and are a member of Facebook, check out the Lodge’s page, simply by searching Laurel Wreath Lodge.
Also, we are trying to create a new website. Our current website is really phase one of our presence in the web world, and now we have brothers working on a new version of the website to move us into phase two. More
details in the future.
Brethren, as we are now moving into June, that means the Crab Feast is right around the corner. This year it is scheduled for August 20th. P.M. Robert Hughes will start selling tickets in the coming weeks every Wednesday night at Lodge. He will be sending out the flyers with details in the coming weeks.
We are currently under 10 Brothers that owe 2016 dues. If you have not yet paid your dues, please do as soon as possible. Payments can be sent to Secretary P.M. Robert Hughes, with his address on the back.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Philip Maxon, PM
